Last week, we focused on designing the backgrounds for our worlds. Our K-2nd-grade artists began by experimenting with watercolor, learning how different amounts of water and paint can create either bold, vibrant colors or soft, transparent areas.

After practicing, everyone sketched the backgrounds for the worlds their characters will live in and then painted their designs on watercolor paper. It was great to see how focused everyone was as they worked on bringing their environments to life!

This week, we explored how music and drawing can work together. We started by walking and clapping around the tables to the beat while I switched between playing the drums and the ukulele. Then, your artists translated the rhythm into drawing, making marks on the page based on how the music made them feel.

Afterward, we looked at the flowing lines on the paper and turned them into artwork by imagining what shapes we could see within them. Some artists discovered ice cream, mountains, fish, and monsters. Once finished, they cut out their drawings to take home, and those who finished early continued developing their characters for their worlds.

I can't wait to see what they create next!
